High Output Management by Andrew Grove has shaped how I think about management: my contribution is the output of my team. I focus my time where it can increase that output, especially on hiring, training, and removing constraints on the critical path. I give engineers a clear direction and show how their work connects to business and shareholder value, then give them the autonomy to decide how to deliver.
I improved communication across the team and reduced meetings that fragmented the workday. I removed unnecessary meetings, especially those in the middle of the day, and protected longer stretches of uninterrupted focus. I want communication to create clarity without becoming overhead, so engineers have the context to stay aligned and the space to work through difficult problems.
Engineers on my team have often been promoted faster than the company's typical two-year timeline. I give people meaningful responsibility, support their growth, and make sure their work is visible.
7 Powers influences how I approach products. I look for opportunities to build process power and data flywheels: ways for what we learn through operating a product to improve it over time. I want that accumulated knowledge to create a lasting advantage.
